Mr Slang's Bio

Mehdi Cee, a.k.a Mr Slang, was born in April of 1981.

His Father used to enjoy listening to a lot of African music whether it be from Northern or Southern Africa, as well as the Islands.

His Mother loved Soul and Disco with a penchant for the oldies (50's and 60's).

When he used to get driven to school as a young boy, he would have to wait a good 15 minutes alone in the car while his mother dropped off his younger brother to kindergarten. During those 15 minutes, he would have a taste of what it meant to have soul...

Whether it was Oldies 990 or CHOM 97.7, Mehdi Cee would be having his favourite 15 minutes of the day hopping in the car chair like there was no tomorrow, listening to all the classics depending on his Mothers' choice of tunes for that morning for at least 2yrs.

As Mehdi grew up, the family situation degraded. He would start writing poems on school desks to vent his frustrations until he got his first taste of rap music at 12 years old... He thought nothing of it until he turned 15 and that's when he fell in love with H.E.R.

Mehdi Cee always preferred the conscious cat to the gangster and loved to freestyle, earning him a name for fly rhymes with sweet meanings. All that was left to find was a beatmaker....

In late 2000, he hooked up with his cousin YS. YS introduced him to Johnny IllDigger and that's where it all started.

The BoomBap Cats were born.

After a lot of work and mistakes, Step in the Alley is finally here and Mehdi Cee made sure he said something with soul...
